FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything you need to know about our goats, availability, care requirements, and the process of welcoming pygmy goats into your family.

FAQS

Important Information

When are pygmy goat kids available?

Kids are available at different times throughout the year depending on our breeding schedule.

We focus on responsible breeding, not producing large numbers of kids.

Because of this, we do not always have goats available. Availability depends on our breeding schedule and timing throughout the year.

If you are interested in adding a LaFamilia pygmy goat to your family, we recommend getting in touch so you can join our waiting list. We will contact you when kids become available.

Do you have a waiting list?

Yes. We keep a waiting list for upcoming kids. This allows us to contact interested buyers as goats become available.

Contact us for more information.

How much do your goats cost?

Pricing varies depending on the goat, breeding, and purpose.

We put a lot of time, care, and investment into our breeding program, and our pricing reflects the quality, health, and genetics of our goats. We are always happy to discuss this with you.

Do I need anything in place before owning goats?

Yes. You are required to have a PIC (Property Identification Code) before purchasing goats.

A PIC is issued through Local Land Services and is a legal requirement, even if you are not moving stock. It is a simple process to apply online.

You will need to have your PIC organised before bringing goats home.

For more on preparing your property, see our Pygmy Goat Care Guide.

Can pygmy goats be kept on their own?

No. Pygmy goats are very social animals and should always be kept with at least one other goat. They do best in pairs or small groups.

What do pygmy goats need to be properly cared for?

Pygmy goats require:

  • secure and appropriate fencing
  • shelter from weather
  • access to fresh water and quality feed
  • regular care and attention
  • companionship

They are not a low-maintenance animal and should only be purchased if you are prepared for the responsibility.

Are your goats registered?

Yes. All of our goats are registered, and we maintain accurate records across our herd.

Do you DNA test your goats?

Yes. Parentage is DNA verified, giving you confidence in the breeding and lineage of our goats.

Are your goats suitable as pets?

Pygmy goats can make wonderful companions for the right home. They are friendly, playful, and full of personality.

However, they still require proper care and should not be treated as a novelty or impulse purchase.

Can you help first-time goat owners?

Yes. We are always happy to provide guidance and answer questions to help you feel confident before bringing goats home.

How do you choose who your goats go to?

We take care in selecting suitable homes for our goats. We want to ensure they are going to owners who understand their needs and can provide a safe, well-prepared environment.
